Manager Roles

Below are the roles tied to all of our volunteer manager positions, please note any use of 1UP is referring to 1UpOnCancer:

Chief Executive Officer [CEO]

Description:

The volunteer CEO will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the present and the board of directors, staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The CEO will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.

Direct Report: The Board of Directors

Duties:

  • Ensure ongoing rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain the non-profit’s high-performance senior management team.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board and the sponsors.
  • Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion while simultaneously retiring building debt.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications – from web presence to external relations with the goal of creation a stronger brand.

 


Program Manager

Description:

The volunteer Program Manager will plan the delivery of overall program in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization. They will work with directly with the Office Manager and the Community Manager.

Direct Report: CEO

Duties:

  • Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ensure that the program activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards.
  • Coordinate the delivery of services among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Monitor the program activities on a regular bases and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework.
  • Order proper signage for events and monitor and maintain all internal purchasing.
  • Generate leads on sponsorships and maintain relationships with potential sponsors and companies.
  • Conduct weekly meetings to ensure that program is on track and managers are addressed.
  • Complete and maintain any company expenditures and log and pay company bills.

 


Marketing Manager

Description:

The volunteer Marketing Manager will develop, implement and manage the digital and event marketing campaigns that promote the brand. They will work with directly with the Events Manager, Promotions Manager, and Public Relations.

Direct Report: CEO

Duties:

  • Works independently and with other department and organization staff in planning and executing internal and external communications programs, strategic planning, and fund development initiatives.
  • Researches, interviews sources, and stays current on relevant topics, marketing and fund development trends, and community activities.
  • Writes, designs and manages the production and distribution of media release, ad, brochures, newsletters, fund development solicitations, direct mail, website updates, and other communications materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Plans, develops schedules, and implements activities for ongoing solicitation of contributions and grants.
  • Plans meetings, presentations, programs, and special events while participating and representing the department in these activities.

 


Public Relations Manager

Description:

The volunteer Public Relations Manager will work with directly with the Community Manager, Events Manager, Promotions Manager, and the Marketing Manager.

Direct Report: Marketing Manager

Duties:

  • Assist the Community Manager with Social Media, keeping in frequent communication and interaction with sponsors and followers by promotions of events, campaigns, press releases and new information updates from 1UpOnCancer in regards to applications and fundings.
  • Work with the Marketing and Promotions Managers in regards to establish the areas of need for the website, in terms of ease of use, visually informative, and which placements are best for transmitting views.
  • Help develop and publish newsletters (email, printed and PDF versions) with updated information with the board.
  • Plan and implement news campaigns for 1UpOnCancer’s fundraising events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts from media agencies.
  • Plan and develop promotional materials for social media platforms (e.g. content for Twitch, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube)

 


Promotions Manager

Description:

The volunteer Promotion Manager position will require supervising various promotion-related projects and campaigns along with developing promotion products that will attract potential sponsors and promoting services for applicants.

Direct Report: Marketing Manager

Duties:

Campaign – Related Projects

  • Work with Marketing, Events, and Public Relations to discuss topics such as concepts, required decks, timelines, budgets, contracts, marketing plans, and selection of advertising media to showcase at each event campaign.
  • Plan and develop promotional content for platforms (e.g. content for Twitch, Mixer, and Youtube) promoting merchandise through 1UpOnCancer.
  • Work with Events and Sponsors to ensure their requirements are met for each campaign.
  • Work and design concepts for merchandise for online platforms and at conventions.
  • Actively research and maintain the online merchandise store.
  • Collaborate with the Office Manager to maintain appropriate merchandise inventory.
  • Attend events and procure official content, photographs, and interviews with attendees to share via Marketing or the Community Manager on social media platforms.

 


Community Manager

Description:

The volunteer Community Manager position will require a working team of Marketing, Public Relations, and Promotions in order to succeed in cultivating a positive and engaging community online and at official events.

Direct Report: Marketing Manager

Duties:

Community Engagement

  • Oversee all of 1UpOnCancer’s official online social media platforms such as Twitch, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Discord, while maintaining an engaging and positive rapport with the community.
  • Work with other managers of 1UpOnCancer to effectively curate content for individual needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with potential streamers and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain official stream teams for Twitch and Mixer.
  • Work with volunteers to determine appropriate scheduling for events while communicating with the Events Manager.
  • Keep and maintain an active log of volunteers by type and participation.
  • Maintain the volunteer handbook.

 


Events Manager

Description:

The volunteer Events Manager position will require a working team of Marketing, Public Relations, Promotions, and the Community Manager in order to succeed through event planning, online fundraising marathons, and production.

Direct Report: Marketing Manager

Duties:

Event Planning and Production Management

  • Oversee the execution of the exhibition contracts and long-term, for all activities general and exclusive to each event which includes: negotiating costs and services with vendors, booking spaces, and operations for the booth (audiovisual /supplies).
  • Coordinate the logistics of transporting booth equipment and supplies to the event location.
  • Work with Marketing Team for promotions of events / campaigns and new information updates from 1UpOnCancer.
  • Work with Marketing, Events, and public Relations to discuss topics such as concepts, required specific decks, timelines, budgets, contracts, marketing plans, and selection of advertising media to showcase each event campaign.
  • Plan and implement event and online fundraising campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Community Manager for volunteer information and scheduling.

 


Office Manager

Job Description:

The volunteer Office Manager will ensure the smooth functioning of 1UP’s physical office at the NōD Coworking building in Dallas, TX. They are responsible for the overall front office activities, including the reception area and maintain its professional appearance.

Direct Report: Program Manager

Duties:

  • Answering the telephone for 1UP and prompt communicating the messages to the respective manager.
  • Greet people as they arrive to the office.
  • Set up tours of the 1UpOnCancer offices and answer questions regarding the organization.
  • Manages the reception, streaming, and the office areas to ensure that they are well-kept and the layout consistent with the NōD Coworking requirements.
  • Set schedules for the studio.
  • Ensure the volunteers have read and understand the rules for offices and enforce when necessary.
  • Ensure that all pertinent forms related to volunteers are signed, scanned, and filed.
  • Ensure the streaming room computers, internet, and other equipments are functioning. If not, require troubleshooting skills and able to go to the Program Manager if a solution is not found.
  • Ensure that supplies, materials, and equipment are stored in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all equipment, including copier, printer, filing cabinet, etc. If supplies are low, they are to put in order requisition forms for the Program Manager.
  • Negotiates the purchase of office supplies and furniture, office equipment, etc. for the entire staff in accordance with company purchasing policies and budgetary restrictions.
  • Handle the material requisition forms and ensure that the requests are necessary and relevant to 1UP.
  • Arrange office meetings through NōD Coworking for staff.
  • Clickup Management, maintain and manage the ClickUp app and make sure it is up to date and everyone knows their tasks.
  • Keep notes at weekly meetings.
